  • TYTAN Technologies

At TYTAN, we aim to set a global standard in autonomous air defense with AI-driven, cost-efficient systems that counter unmanned aerial threats at scale. We protect people. We protect critical infrastructure. We protect European sovereignty.

We are looking for a Senior Embedded Platform Engineer who lives at the boundary between software and hardware. Someone who has taken a tested binary and turned it into a deployable, updatable, provisionable system image running on real embedded targets in a production environment. Not a hobbyist, not a prototype builder: someone who has shipped embedded Linux products to customers, operated them in the field, and dealt with what happens when an OTA update fails at 2 AM on 500 devices.

This person has architected or significantly contributed to an OTA update system, built full OS images from tested artifacts, designed provisioning flows for factory lines, and has strong opinions on boot chains, image layouts, partition schemes, and rollback strategies.

Your Roadmap to make an impact

    • Architect, build, and operate robust OTA update systems for embedded Linux devices, including A/B partitioning, rollback strategies, and fleet-wide deployments

    • Transform CI outputs into production-ready OS images, ensuring correct packaging, dependency resolution, and configuration layering

    • Design and implement device provisioning workflows for manufacturing, including identity, key injection, and initial firmware loading

    • Define and maintain boot architectures (bootloaders, partition layouts, secure boot chains, and recovery strategies)

    • Bridge the gap between software engineering, hardware systems, and manufacturing, working directly with production and test teams

    • Integrate deployment workflows with factory systems, including end-of-line testing and manufacturing infrastructure

    • Debug issues across the stack—from kernel and bootloader to hardware interfaces via UART or JTAG

    • Collaborate with external security partners while building internal expertise in embedded security

    Who you are

    • 4+ years working with embedded Linux systems in production environments (shipping real devices, not prototypes)

    • Proven experience designing or operating OTA update systems at scale, including:

      • Full and delta updates

      • A/B partitioning and rollback

      • Update verification and fleet management

    • Strong experience building complete system images from CI artifacts

    • Solid systems programming skills (C/C++ or Rust), plus Python for tooling and automation

    • Hands-on experience with cross-compilation and BSPs for ARM/AArch64 platforms

    • Deep understanding of the Linux boot process (bootloaders, kernel, initramfs, root filesystem, system initialization)

    • Experience with production provisioning workflows (certificates, key injection, identity management)

    • Practical knowledge of embedded security, including secure boot, firmware signing, and key management

    • Familiarity with hardware communication protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet)

    • Experience across the full product lifecycle, from prototype to mass production

    • Ability to integrate with manufacturing and test infrastructure

    • Understanding of software supply chain traceability and SBOM generation

    • Comfortable using hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, serial consoles)

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with NixOS or Nix-based embedded build systems

    • Background in UAV, robotics, aerospace, automotive, or defense systems

    • Familiarity with defense or regulated environments (e.g., export controls, qualification processes)

    • Experience with Yocto/OpenEmbedded and BSP integration

    • Working knowledge of Linux kernel development (device trees, drivers, kernel patches)

    • Experience with UEFI and secure boot implementations on embedded platforms

    • Familiarity with robotics or mission-critical protocols (e.g., MAVLink, ROS2/DDS)

    • Experience managing large fleets of deployed devices, including staged rollouts and monitoring

    Why TYTAN?

    • Be the first to welcome the world into a deep-tech defense startup that is shaping the future of security.

    • Work in a fast-paced, international team where your contributions truly matter and your impact is immediate.

    • Participate in our success with stock options.

    • Be part of something bigger in a mission driven company.

    • Enjoy flexible working hours.

    • Access to EGYM Wellpass sports facilities.

    • All day coffee and snacks, team events, and a modern office in Munich.
