surge aero is developing and delivering high-end propulsion solutions with a strong focus on engineering, reliability and performance. As we build our operations, quality is a core part of how we work — not something added at the end of the process.
We are looking for a Quality Engineer to establish and drive our quality activities from an early stage. This is a hands-on role with a strong technical focus, working closely with engineering, testing and operations.
Tasks
As Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that our engines and related components meet defined quality, reliability and documentation standards.
In the initial phase, our activities will focus primarily on testing, inspection and, where necessary, rework rather than full in-house engine manufacturing. You will therefore play a key role in establishing robust inspection and release processes and ensuring that every product leaving our facility meets our high standards.
You will help build our quality processes from the ground up, establish clear criteria for inspection and release, and ensure full traceability throughout our operations.
Your Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain inspection and quality processes for engines, components and related activities
- Develop inspection plans, control plans and clear release criteria
- Perform and coordinate inspections of incoming components, engines and completed work
- Support and oversee engine testing and test-bench quality activities
- Ensure complete product and process traceability
- Manage measurement and inspection equipment, including calibration and suitability
- Analyze quality issues and lead structured problem-solving activities, including 8D
- Support FMEA activities and identify potential quality risks early
- Apply appropriate MSA and measurement-system principles
- Establish and maintain quality documentation and records
- Identify deviations, document non-conformities and coordinate corrective actions
- Work closely with engineering and operations to investigate technical quality issues
- Support rework activities and ensure proper inspection and release after rework
- Define and continuously improve quality standards and procedures
- Prepare the organization for relevant quality certifications and audits, particularly ISO 9001 and/or EN 9100
- Contribute to the development of a scalable quality management system as Surge Aero grows
Requirements
- Technical degree, engineering qualification or technician qualification
- Solid professional experience in manufacturing, mechanical engineering, aerospace, automotive or another technically demanding industry
- Strong practical understanding of quality engineering and inspection processes
- Experience with several of the following:
- Inspection and control planning
- 8D / structured problem solving
- FMEA
- MSA
- Measurement and test equipment management
- Non-conformity and corrective-action management
- Product and process traceability
- Ideally experience with ISO 9001 and/or EN 9100
- Very good technical understanding of engines, mechanical systems, measurement technology and test benches
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications and technical documentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Hands-on mentality and willingness to work directly with products, measurements and testing
- High attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility for product quality
- Ability to work independently and establish processes in an environment where not everything is already defined
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with engineering and operations
- Fluent German and good English skills
Benefits
- The opportunity to build quality processes from the ground up
- A key role in establishing the quality standards of a growing aerospace company
- Direct collaboration with engineering, testing and operations
- A highly technical and hands-on working environment
- Significant responsibility and room to shape processes and standards
- The opportunity to work with advanced propulsion technology and high-performance engines
