About Faircado - Making re-commerce the new e-commerce

Faircado is at the forefront of the sustainable shopping movement, making second-hand the first choice for consumers everywhere. Faircado simplifies the search for quality pre-owned items by aggregating listings from various trusted platforms, ensuring a seamless and eco-conscious shopping experience. Currently, the online second-hand market is fragmented, messy, and time-consuming, so Faircado is creating a movement where the experience of buying second-hand is better than buying new. To date, we’ve built a browser extension that finds second-hand alternatives as you shop online as normal (check it out it’s pretty cool). We're on a mission to scale our user-friendly platform to millions of users, making a tangible impact on the environment and consumer habits.

Tasks

Do What You Love!

As a front-end-focused software engineer, your impact will be integral to the success of Faircado.

Key responsibilities include:

• You will build a new high-performance, server-side rendered NextJS platform with several million hits per minute.
• You work collaboratively with Product, UX/UI Designers, and Engineers to scope, design, and implement user-facing features with high complexity that go beyond conventional shopping assistants.
• In addition, you will implement product features that have a direct impact on user engagement, experience, and monetization.
• You will take ownership of the whole development cycle – from architectural design to implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Therefore you own your individual code base, write appropriate unit and integration tests, and continuously deploy accepted features.
• You write elegant, maintainable, and scalable in TypeScript/HTML/CSS.
• You actively participate in product & feature discovery sessions with our founders and CPO.
• Fast is not fast enough for you: You will also be responsible for optimising page performance on Faircado.

Requirements

We Need You To Have…

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
• Substantial professional experience as a software engineer of modern web applications.
• Experience building web applications using modern JS libraries/frameworks e.g. React, Next.js, TypeScript, and you are interested in expanding your knowledge of these.
• "Server-Side rendering with React" is in your toolbox.
• You like working collaboratively on challenges and actively sharing and receiving knowledge and learning.
• Experience writing unit and end-to-end tests
• Experience with building multilingual applications
• Understanding of UX design principles
• Experience in building/automating CI/CD pipelines
• Self-starter, highly motivated, ready to accept challenges, willing to take ownership of topics and deliver results
• Knowledge of agile development e.g, Scrum or Kanban is a plus
• You are a great communicator, and comfortable with an English-speaking work environment.

Bonus points:

• Experience with JVM Languages.
• Experience with search technologies (e.g., ElasticSearch, Apache Solr, Lucene).
• Knowledge of machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) techniques.
• Experience working in a startup environment.
