About Faircado - Making re-commerce the new e-commerce

Faircado is at the forefront of the sustainable shopping movement, making second-hand the first choice for consumers everywhere. Faircado simplifies the search for quality pre-owned items by aggregating listings from various trusted platforms, ensuring a seamless and eco-conscious shopping experience. We’re building Faircado to disrupt and make circular the €200 Billion resale market in Europe, making the planet a better place at the same time.

Currently, the online second-hand market is fragmented, messy, and time-consuming, so Faircado is creating a movement where the experience of buying second-hand is better than buying new. To date, we’ve built a browser extension that finds second-hand alternatives as you shop online as normal (check it out, it's pretty cool). We're on a mission to scale our user-friendly platform to millions of users, making a tangible impact on the environment and consumer habits.

Tasks

Do What You Love!

As a senior software engineer, your impact will be integral to the success of Faircado.

Key responsibilities include:

Taking ownership of the whole development cycle, from design, to development, delivery, operations, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate closely with the team to convert user needs into clear technical specifications.
Champion the integration of new technologies and best practices to elevate the functionality and user experience of our search engine.
Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable Kotlin code, adhering to best coding practices.
Engage in and lead code reviews, promoting a culture of excellence and knowledge sharing within the team.
Take full ownership within an agile software development cycle, encompassing design, development, delivery, and operations, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.
Impact millions of users weekly through direct contributions to critical software systems.
Influence team decisions on technology and tool selection for deploying scalable microservice-based applications on AWS.
Work collaboratively with product teams and cross-functional stakeholders to become a domain expert and owner.
Foster team growth and development by providing constructive feedback, mentoring, and support to junior colleagues.

Requirements

We Need You To Have…

Minimum of 6 years of experience in backend development with any modern server-side languages.
Demonstrated experience with microservice architectures, RESTful services, and API design.
Experience in managing projects through the full software development lifecycle.
Commitment to high code quality and proven experience in code reviews and pair programming.
Strong understanding of distributed systems and scalability concepts.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A commitment to continuous personal and team improvement.
A passion for staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
Fluent in English and ready to join us in the heart of Berlin, Germany.

Bonus points:

In-depth knowledge of search engine architecture and principles (e.g., relevance ranking, retrieval models).
Experience with Elasticsearch or similar search index solutions.
Knowledge of machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) techniques.
Experience working in a startup environment.
