We are looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack Engineer to take a key role in building and scaling Custom Surgical’s core software platforms, including MicroREC Connect (web application) and MicroREC Desktop (Electron-based desktop application).
This role requires strong hands-on engineering skills across frontend and system-level functionality. You will work not only on user interfaces, but also on API integration, networking, local data handling, and hardware-adjacent features. Reliability, performance, and scalability are critical, as these applications are used daily in real clinical environments.
You will contribute to technical decisions, help shape the software architecture, and support other developers as the team grows.
Tasks
- Design, develop, and maintain production-grade web and desktop applications;
- Build and evolve React-based frontends with a strong focus on usability and reliability;
- Develop and consume APIs, handle network requests, and manage application state;
- Implement and maintain Electron-based desktop functionality, including system and OS-level integrations;
- Manage local data storage, caching, and database connections;
- Work close to hardware-related features and data capture workflows;
- Contribute to architectural and technical decisions across the software stack;
- Ensure performance, stability, and scalability of applications in production;
- Review code and mentor junior and mid-level developers;
- Collaborate closely with backend, cloud, mobile, and hardware teams.
Requirements
- Strong experience as a Full Stack or Software Engineer on production applications;
- Advanced knowledge of JavaScript / TypeScript;
- Professional experience with React for complex web applications;
- Experience building desktop applications using Electron or similar frameworks;
- Solid understanding of API design, consumption, and network communication;
- Experience handling local databases, file systems, and offline data;
- Familiarity with hardware-adjacent or system-level functionality;
- Proven experience scaling and maintaining production systems;
- Ability to contribute to and guide technical decision-making;
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or reviewing work of other developers;
- Fluency in English (spoken and written);
- Based in Munich or willing to relocate (on-site work required).
Nice to have (but not required):
- Experience in medical devices, healthcare, or regulated environments;
- Familiarity with Node.js backend services;
- Experience with cloud-based architectures and deployments;
- Knowledge of security, authentication, and data privacy best practices;
- Previous experience in a startup or fast-growing company.
What we expect from Custom Surgical Candidates:
- You are an owner — you take end-to-end responsibility for complex technical problems and drive long-term improvements;
- You have a growth mindset and care about long-term software quality;
- You’re proactive and solutions-oriented — you work across teams to unblock progress and deliver outcomes when it matters;
- You are open, sincere, and comfortable giving and receiving feedback;

- Home office when needed, with regular on-site collaboration in Munich;
- No unnecessary bureaucracy — high autonomy and ownership;
- WellPass/Deutschlandticket + JobRad bike leasing with insurance;
- Direct impact on mission-critical software used in clinical workflows worldwide;
- The opportunity to influence architecture and technical direction of core products.
