  • We are an early startup with a big vision - capture 0.5GT of global CO2 emissions from the air by 2035 through biotechnology, roughly the same weight as all humans on earth combined!

To meet our climate targets the reduction of CO2 emissions is not enough, the world actively has to capture billions of tons of CO2 from our atmosphere. To achieve that we at Ucaneo develop the world’s first biomimetic Direct Air Capture technology to remove CO2 from ambient air.

We are a science and mission-driven team, fast-moving with a break-or-make attitude. Our lab is at Campus Buch Berlin, one of the biggest biotech parks in Germany. Our office is located in the heart of Berlin, at Torstraße 110.

    Starting Date: 1st July 2023

    Tasks

Your mission: Connecting our hardware to the cloud to monitor process performance and enable an exponential data-driven learning curve.

    Responsibilities

We're seeking a skilled Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join our Berlin-based startup, focusing on process simulation and equipment choice at industrial scale. Operating in an agile environment, you'll lead the process design of our Direct Air Capture technology, aiming for scalable commercial manufacturing. This involves creating P&IDs, calculating thermodynamic processes for our TEA, and exploring methods to improve process models, focusing on gas-liquid interface reactions and electrochemical separation processes in close interaction with our technical lead positions in Hardware Engineering, IoT & Chemical Process with focus on electrochemistry and supporting our process engineer and testing engineer with their work.

    Key Points

    • Take responsibility for the process design of our novel Direct Air Capture process
    • Identify and develop a process that will be converted into a product that can be manufactured at commercial scale
    • Creating P&IDs with AutoCAD and aligning equipment choices with hardware engineering, IoT and Chemical Process team.
    • Calculating thermodynamic processes, energy requirements, and mass & flow balances which feed directly into our TEA with Aspen/Hysis
    • Compare different methods for individual process steps, conduct equipment sizing and/or numerical simulations to obtain maximum flow velocities etc.
    • Consider thermodynamics and kinetics to improve process models and digital twin or our industrial unit with COMSOL or pyhton
    • Focus on gas-liquid interface reactions and electrochemical separation process
    • Identify and mitigate durability risks of Bipolar Membranes industrial performance
