The Open Source team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in blockchain technology, networking, or distributed, fault-tolerant systems design. We are seeking a capable and rigorous functional programming enthusiast looking for solving challenging problems never solved before.
As we value motivation and autonomy, the ideal candidate is able and willing to be responsible for the complete lifecycle of a project. This entails the definition and prioritisation of tasks, the design and implementation, as well as the testing, documentation and support for users.
Ultimately, we seek to create a flourishing ecosystem of technology solutions that apply not only to Cardano, but to a broader set of problems relevant to many distributed systems.
In this role, you’ll have the following main responsibilities:
Coordinate with other maintainers, users and stakeholders through open and efficient processes (e.g. CIP) to identify improvements or new functionalities that directly impact the Cardano technology stack.
Improve the stability, the quality and the accessibility of the existing Cardano libraries.
Assist contributors and help foster an open source community of developers in the Cardano technology stack.
Create new open source libraries, contribute to existing open source projects or design new projects when necessary.
Review state of the art technology solutions (publications or other libraries / frameworks) to steer evolutions of the project.
Inform about the techniques and innovations you’re bringing to the Cardano technology stack through workshops, blog posts, scientific papers or any medium that would be deemed relevant.
Your story:
A strong foundation in Computer Science, demonstrated by a degree (Master's or PhD) or visible experience in Computer Science or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with at least 2 years specifically within the Cardano ecosystem.
Proven experience in maintaining (successful) open source projects.
Expertise with functional programming languages, preferably typed, preferably Rust, Haskell, JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
Good understanding of permissionless blockchains, especially Proof-of-Stake consensus protocols.
Good understanding of distributed systems, architectures, data-structures and/or algorithms.
Good understanding of languages semantic and/or type theory.
Good understanding of cryptography.
Autonomy and desire to work as an open source maintainer.
Ability to deliver high-quality code and ensure it through various testing techniques (e.g. property-based testing).
Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of one or more of the existing Cardano technology stacks.
Solid communication and sharing skills.
