We are looking for a Frontend Engineer to start in our office in Berlin, Germany!
In your role as a Frontend Engineer, your mission will be to change the future of language learning while working in a flexible and stimulating environment. Working together with motivated colleagues, you will be collaborating and diving into different disciplines to broaden your knowledge in other fields of expertise as well as share your own.
We are at the heart of Babbel, developing the learning content architecture and the tools our editors use to create our learning experiences! Topics include event-driven microservice architecture, content modeling, the content editing frontend, and CMS customization. Primary stack: JavaScript (some TypeScript) and React.
This is a fixed-term position with an anticipated duration of 1 year.
You will:
- Learn a lot!
- Design and iterate on our software architecture
- Own your work and drive what matters
- Build new services and maintain old ones
- Work closely with our learning content editors to make their vision a reality
- Provide both insight and wisdom from your unique perspective and background
- Contribute to our culture of testing, learning, and innovating
You have:
- Experience in building frontend applications with JavaScript
- Strong sense for good api design
- Openness to learn new things and reach outside your comfort zone
- Extensive testing experience
- Experience tracking system health and performance
- A product-oriented mindset
- A strong sense of ownership of your work
- A can-do attitude to build and iterate on features
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Nice to have:
- Experience with Ruby & Rails
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform)
- Experience with event-driven, distributed architecture
- Experience with AWS services (e.g., Lambda, Kinesis)
