THE ROLE
As a Video Backend Engineer in our Streaming & CDN team, you'll be instrumental in shaping how millions of users experience their favorite content. You'll dive deep into our C++ and Go-based systems, crafting high-quality, maintainable code that powers our custom CDN. This isn't just about writing code; it's about architecting solutions, implementing best-in-class testing, and driving projects that directly impact our streaming capabilities.

THE TEAM
Our Streaming and CDN team is the engine behind Zattoo's video delivery. We build and run the software on our own CDN edge nodes (mostly in C++) to make sure your streams are fast and smooth. Think caching, packaging, DRM magic, and delivering in all the formats you need (DASH, HLS, you name it!).
We also develop and maintain software (mainly in Go) that runs in our central datacentres and manages the creation and configuration of streams, as well as user (i.e. app/player) authorisation and validation.
We collaborate closely with teams handling video ingest, playback apps, ad insertion, and our network infrastructure. We generate a lot of data that the rest of the company relies on for reporting, billing, and debugging purposes.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop and maintain software, writing high-quality maintainable code
- Implement best practices in software testing with the support of principal engineers
- Create design documents and specifications, planning small- to medium-sized projects
- Communicate effectively with the squad and with stakeholders in other squads
- Motivate the squad and coach and mentor individuals in your areas of expertise
- Assist Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team with operational monitoring of our CDN
- Act as third-line support for complex problems, debugging issues with our streamers and data pipelines
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Expert C++ developer, aware of industry best practices and trends
- Good knowledge of either Go or Python and a willingness to learn the other
- Deep understanding of highly concurrent and distributed systems
- Excellent understanding of GNU/Linux and systems administration work (bonus: experience with Debian)
- Excellent understanding of TCP/IP networking principles and experience debugging network traffic
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Desirable: Experience with video streaming technologies (DASH, HLS, FFmpeg etc.)
- Desirable: Experience developing and supporting high-load Unix systems in a distributed production environment with 24/7 operations
- Bonus: Experience with container management systems such as Kubernetes and Docker
- Bonus: Experience with modern database systems and real-time data flows, e.g. Kafka, Clickhouse
