  • Spire Global is a space-to-cloud analytics company that owns and operates the largest multi-purpose constellation of satellites. Its proprietary data and algorithms provide the most advanced maritime, aviation, and weather tracking in the world. In addition to its constellation, Spire's data infrastructure includes a global ground station network and 24/7 operations that provide real-time global coverage of every point on Earth.

As a Senior PNT engineer you will be joining the mission design team at Sprie as the subject matter expert on existing and future PNT systems. This candidate will be capable of leading system development efforts necessary to propose, design, verify, and implement systems with complex embedded real-time processing as it pertains to precision position, navigation, and time.

As a Spire employee, you will have the responsibility to ensure that we deliver high-quality, low-latency services and products and the freedom to pursue novel, high-impact applications. Instead of your ideas and efforts sitting on a shelf or hidden in an academic journal, you will see and experience them actually working in space within months of joining Spire.

    Responsibilities of your role:

    • Design and Develop GNSS-independent PNT Systems: Design, develop, and implement advanced PNT systems and solutions for various applications
    • System Integration: Integrate PNT technologies into existing systems, ensuring seamless interoperability and functionality.
    • Testing and Validation: Develop test plans and conduct rigorous testing to validate the performance and accuracy of PNT systems under various conditions and environments.
    • Troubleshooting and Debugging: Identify and resolve technical issues related to PNT systems through troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis.
    • Algorithm Development: Develop and optimize algorithms for signal processing, positioning, navigation, and timing to enhance the accuracy and reliability of PNT solutions.
    • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, software developers, and project managers to ensure successful implementation of PNT solutions.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python or other scientific programming languages
    • Knowledge of firmware design on FPGAs and software development on embedded processors
    • Expertise in conducting and analyzing both analytic and hardware-in-the-loop tests
    • Hands-on design experience with hardware including radio frequency (RF) and digital components
    • Deep experience with GNSS theory and architecture concerning the space segment, signal interface, and receiver (user) segment
    • Expertise in existing and emergent PNT technologies including:
      • Advanced clocks and timing devices
      • Time Transfer Methodologies
      • Inertial guidance systems
      • Alternative PNT methods

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with GNSS-independent orbit determination and timing systems, timing distribution, doppler ranging, laser ranging, clock models, bias prediction, etc.
    • Experience with SDR platforms and associated tools for signal processing and waveform generation.
    • Experience with Kalman filtering techniques for sensor fusion and state estimation in navigation systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to make trade-offs between cost, complexity, and capabilities for complex systems
    • Expertise in Hardware Serial Communications, distribution of network time protocol (NTP) and reference signals
    • Demonstrated expertise in C, C++ programming languages with DSP applications
    • Ability to write production level python code
    • Experience writing technical reports and proposals.

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in office.

Access to US export controlled software and/or technology may be required. #LI-DC1
