MOTOR Ai is a Berlin-based deep-tech startup transforming the way autonomous driving works.
We're not just building smarter vehicles — we’re developing one of the first certifiable Level 4 autonomy systems in Europe, grounded in cognitive neuroscience and capable of navigating real-world, complex traffic scenarios.
Our technology doesn’t just recognize — it reasons. That means safer, faster, and more adaptable autonomy — especially in environments where traditional AI struggles.
Join our diverse and fast-growing team of engineers, scientists, and visionaries as we shape the future of mobility. At MOTOR Ai, your work will have real impact and your ideas will help drive autonomous driving into the next era.
The Head of Perception will lead the perception division for Level 4 autonomous driving systems, managing the research, development, and deployment of cutting-edge perception algorithms and systems. This role covers multi-sensor fusion, AI model and rule-based algorithm development, data pipeline design, and ensuring robust, safe, and reliable perception under diverse ODD (Operational Design Domain) conditions.
Tasks
- Lead and mentor the perception engineering team (AI, rule-based algorithms, sensor fusion).
- Define the perception system architecture, roadmap, and research strategy.
- Oversee the development of 3D object detection, segmentation, and occupancy mapping.
- Ensure real-time performance, robustness against sensor failures, and adherence to safety standards.
- Collaborate with data, simulation, and planning teams to enhance the end-to-end autonomous driving stack.
- Manage perception-related data pipelines, annotation guidelines, and benchmarking processes.
- Represent perception in cross-functional leadership meetings and external technical discussions.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
- Deep understanding of Computer Vision, 3D Bird’s-Eye-View Perception, SLAM, and Multi-Sensor Fusion.
- Strong C++ and Python programming skills.
- Experience with ROS2, CUDA, TensorRT, and real-time embedded systems.
- Knowledge of perception model optimization for deployment on edge devices.
- 8+ years in perception/robotics, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
Additional Expertise
- Expert in C++ and Python.
- Proficient in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch).
- Experience with ROS2, middleware, and real-time communication.
- Proficient in AWS, data pipeline tools, and MLOps practices.
- Knowledge of ISO 26262, SOTIF, or similar safety standards.
- Project management certification is a plus.
