Your big challenge as our AI Scientist / Product Owner

You will drive the creation of a scalable, AI-powered analytical foundation that enables fact-based, transparent and strategically aligned decisions across all procurement categories. You will help teams systematically understand, challenge and optimize cost structures, contract quality and value drivers by embedding robust, standardized methodologies into daily practice.

You will also shape the methodological backbone behind AI solutions in close collaboration with key stakeholders enabling the shift from experience-based negotiations practices to measurable, model-driven value creation.

In this pivotal role, you act as the bridge between the group AI core team, procurement category management and technical development teams, ensuring AI capabilities are adopted at scale, strengthening negotiation preparation, improving budgeting accuracy, enhancing contract robustness and unlocking sustainable value optimization across the organization.

Your key responsibilities as our AI Product Owner / Scientist

Design and continuously improve AI-driven cost and optimization models used across procurement.
Co-develop cost structure methodologies, assumptions and value drivers across categories.
Build transparent links between cost data, external indices, pricing baselines and contracts.
Translate complex cost and contract dynamics into clear, explainable mathematical models.
Validate, test and calibrate models to ensure accuracy and business relevance.
Define the analytical backbone and requirements for AI tools together with technical teams.
Lead prototyping and testing to ensure measurable impact on negotiations and total cost.
Act as the analytical partner for procurement, turning model insights into practical decision support.
Enable teams to understand and responsibly use AI-generated insights.
Drive adoption of AI-supported decision making through standards and workshops.

You combine a strong innovative mindset with the proven ability to work with both complex data, modeling and people at scale. You are comfortable in a role with high visibility, where you interact with stakeholders across procurement and IT. You are structured, analytical, and confident enough to challenge assumptions when needed. At the same time, you understand that numbers alone are not enough, it’s about understanding the business context behind them.

Besides enjoying working in a multicultural environment, we ask:

Master’s degree or PhD in Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, or a related field
Experience in digital transformation projects in consulting, procurement or supply chain
Hands‑on experience in project management in a cross‑functional or data/AI‑related context, with responsibility for driving workstreams, alignment and delivery.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into insights
Fluency in English (written and spoken)
Living within daily commuting distance of Düsseldorf
