  • At eleQtron, we are developing the next generation of quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Our unique approach, using microwave-driven, laser-cooled ions, is transforming quantum research into scalable, industrial-grade computing. We combine high-end optics, precision laser systems, and magnetic field control to develop reliable quantum hardware that solves today’s unsolvable problems.

We are looking for a VP of Software Engineering (f/m/d) to build, lead, and scale our Quantum Firmware team, shaping the strategy, architecture, and execution of the entire software stack behind our trapped-ion quantum computers. You will work at the intersection of cutting-edge research and engineering, growing a world-class team of engineers and researchers and driving hands-on impact across embedded systems and real-time control software.

    Responsibilities:
As the VP of Software, you will lead and scale a high-impact software organization, driving strategy, architecture, and execution for the systems that power eleQtron’s quantum computing technology, while developing and empowering the engineering teams behind them.

    Software Strategy & Leadership:

    • Define and own the software strategy for eleQtron’s quantum computing platform across control software, embedded systems, cloud services, and developer tools.

    • Collaborate with the CPO and leadership team to shape the overall technical direction and strategic priorities, while owning the long-term software roadmap for eleQtron.

    • Build, lead, and mentor high-performing software engineering teams (e.g., control software, cloud platform, DevOps).

    • Drive engineering excellence through modern development practices, robust quality standards, and a strong technical culture.

    Architecture, Development & Delivery:

Lead the design and implementation of eleQtron’s full software stack powering quantum operations, including:

    • Embedded, interface, and control software for ion-trap systems

    • Firmware and device-level communication layers

    • Quantum compiler toolchains and execution runtimes

    • Oversee end-to-end software delivery to drive reliable, scalable, and secure systems.

    • Establish and continuously evolve engineering processes for CI/CD, testing, documentation, and release cycles, fostering a high-performance engineering environment

    Cross- Functional Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with Quantum Physicists, Hardware, Electronics, and Product teams to integrate software seamlessly with quantum hardware

    • Translate complex physics/engineering requirements into actionable software architectures

    • Align software roadmaps with hardware developments, experimental progress, and product milestones across the organisation

    • Foster knowledge sharing between physics, engineering, and software teams to accelerate development and innovation

    Team & Culture

    • Build an inclusive, high-ownership, world-class execution engineering culture.

    • Scale the software team through hiring, workforce planning and capability development.

    • Provide technical mentorship and career guidance for software team at all levels.

    What you will bring:

    • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years in leadership roles (Director, VP, Head of Software).

    • Strong background in systems-level and real-time/embedded software; experience with hardware–software integration.

    • Deep understanding of one or more relevant domains:

    • High-performance computing

    • Control systems and distributed architectures

    • Compilers, runtimes, or domain-specific languages

    • Cloud platforms, APIs, SaaS infrastructure

    • Experience working in deep-tech, semiconductor, robotics, scientific computing environments, firmware development environments or quantum computing environments.

    Leadership:

    • Proven success in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.

    • Ability to create clarity in complex, interdisciplinary environments.

    • Excellent communication skills; strong stakeholder management and decision-making abilities.

    • Track record of delivering complex technical products from concept to production.

    We value (Bonus):

    • Experience in quantum computing, quantum programming languages, or control software for scientific instrumentation.

    • Understanding of microwave systems, FPGA-based control, or signal processing.

    • Prior experience in dynamic startups, flat hierarchies, or research-driven environments.
