At Wikimedia Deutschland e.V. we help create, collect and distribute free knowledge. In 2004, volunteer Wikipedia activists founded the non-profit association Wikimedia Deutschland in Berlin, which now consists of over 110,000 members and 180 full-time staff.
Free knowledge leads to a fairer world. Wikipedia is the most important online knowledge collection of our time. The German Wikipedia alone records almost 1 billion page views per month for a total of 3 million articles. We - Wikimedia Deutschland e. V. - support the volunteers of Wikipedia and its sister projects, develop free software, such as Wikidata, and advocate for free access to knowledge, the opening of education and research, and more common good orientation in data policy.
For our Software Engineering Team, based in Berlin, we are looking for a permanent Junior Software Engineer (all genders) - Wikibase Reuse, full-time or part-time (30 - 40 hours / week), starting 01.01.2026 or sooner.
This position is designed as a hybrid working model with at least quarterly presence in our Berlin office.
About the position:
You will be working with the team that develops and improves the software behind the Wikidata project. Wikidata is a free and open knowledge graph that can be read and edited by both humans and machines and is a part of the Linked Open Data Network. Wikidata has the clear goal of giving more people more access to more knowledge and you will be part of that!
You will be developing open source software products which enable Reuse of Wikidata data in applications, data visualizations, research, etc. Existing Reuse products include robust web APIs and data dumps for offline processing.
