We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join a dynamic, remote-working team focused on search technologies for a leading e-commerce and multichannel platform. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain advanced search features, using Apache Solr and related technologies to deliver high-performance, customer-centric solutions. You will take end-to-end ownership of your code, services, and infrastructure, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. This position offers the opportunity to work in an agile environment, influence product direction, mentor team members, and explore cutting-edge technologies that enhance search experiences for customers.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy high-performance search features on the platform’s core search engine.
- Take full ownership of your code, services, and infrastructure, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and adjacent teams to align technical decisions with business requirements.
- Implement and maintain technical standards for testing, code quality, and performance based on product maturity.
- Estimate and assess effort for complex features, balancing technical excellence with business value.
- Mentor and support colleagues in technical development and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of search technologies, including vector-based and hybrid search approaches.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with Apache Solr, Querqy, or comparable search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch).
- Hands-on experience with vector-based search systems and language model integration for query interpretation.
- Strong knowledge of at least one object-oriented or functional programming language, preferably Java or Kotlin.
- Familiarity with modern web frameworks such as SpringBoot, Rails, or Laravel.
- Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases, AWS, and Docker container technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, communication abilities, and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
- Willingness to explore new technologies and adapt quickly to unfamiliar topics.
- Good German language skills (minimum B2 level).
