This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Backend Engineer (Python), AI Engineering: Agent Foundations in EMEA.
As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in developing the core infrastructure for AI agents that automate tasks and enhance productivity in software development workflows. You will build scalable backend services, design robust integrations, and contribute to cutting-edge AI features in a high-impact environment. Working in a distributed, collaborative team, you will influence architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and help shape the future of AI-enabled development tools. This role offers the opportunity to combine deep Python expertise with innovative AI solutions, delivering meaningful impact across multiple teams and products.
Accountabilities:
· Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend services using Python in a multi-service environment.
· Build and optimize gRPC-based communication between distributed services.
· Integrate AI and machine learning capabilities, including working with large language models and agent workflows.
· Contribute to a scalable testing infrastructure that validates AI agent behaviors.
· Provide technical mentorship, guidance, and best practices to engineers across teams.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive architecture, product strategy, and implementation decisions.
· Participate in Tier 2/3 on-call rotations to troubleshoot operational and engineering issues as needed.
Requirements
· Several years of experience building Python web services in multi-service or distributed environments (FastAPI, Starlette).
· Proven ability to architect and lead complex technical projects from concept to production.
· Strong experience with AI/ML technologies, including large language model integration and prompt engineering.
· Deep understanding of performance optimization, distributed systems, observability, and scalability.
· Experience mentoring and raising the technical capabilities of teams.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration in a remote, globally distributed team.
· Familiarity with gRPC, and experience with other languages like Ruby, Go, or TypeScript is a plus.
· Passion for AI-driven development and improving software engineering workflows.
