This role offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of location-based applications and services by developing highly scalable, low-latency backend systems. You will work on designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure and APIs that power real-time mapping experiences for millions of users worldwide. The position requires balancing rapid development of innovative mapping tools with operational reliability, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring services scale efficiently. You will contribute to system architecture, mentor peers, and actively participate in improving processes and code quality. This is ideal for an engineer passionate about distributed systems, geospatial data, and building robust platforms that support dynamic, real-world applications.
Accountabilities:
• Design, implement, and maintain high-volume, low-latency backend services for Maps APIs.
• Build and deploy microservices, ETL pipelines, and distributed systems to transform geospatial data into maps.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, scope tasks, and deliver quality features on schedule.
• Promote operational excellence through testing, monitoring, documentation, and on-call support.
• Reduce technical debt, optimize system performance, and accelerate feature velocity.
• Mentor peers, share expertise, and contribute to a culture of knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
• Uphold high-quality coding standards, unit testing, and robust production practices.
Requirements
• 8+ years of experience building scalable, high-performance backend systems.
• Proficiency in C++, TypeScript (backend), and AWS services (CDK, ECS, Step Functions, Lambda, S3).
• Experience with code versioning tools such as GitHub.
• Ability to work independently and execute all development tasks from design and specifications.
• Strong analytical mindset with empirical, data-driven problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, outcomes-focused approach.
• Experience in mentoring, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
• Passion for building systems that handle real-world geospatial and mapping challenges.
Nice to have:
• Experience with mapping platforms or geospatial systems.
• Knowledge of Amazon RDS and SQL.
• Understanding of security standards and best practices.
