You will lead the design and implementation of backend systems, balancing immediate needs with long-term architecture, while collaborating closely with product and mobile teams. You will also contribute to defining engineering best practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code processes, helping set the foundation for future growth. Accountabilities
- Lead the design, evolution, and scaling of backend infrastructure to support rapid growth to millions of daily users.
- Build and maintain robust, secure, and backward-compatible APIs optimized for mobile clients.
- Design scalable data models and database schemas to support product expansion.
- Ensure operational excellence by defining SLOs/SLIs, implementing monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting, and leading incident response and root-cause analysis.
- Drive security, privacy, and compliance initiatives, including authentication, encryption, and GDPR adherence.
- Document backend architecture and workflows to enable effective collaboration and onboarding.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing clear explanations of trade-offs and architectural decisions.
- Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
- Contribute to AI-powered features and notification systems that enhance user experiences.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing and scaling backend infrastructure for large-scale consumer or mobile-first products.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, with hands-on experience in cloud platforms (preferably GCP).
- Experience with Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Cloud Functions) is a plus.
- Expertise in SQL & NoSQL databases and designing scalable data models.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code, and API versioning strategies.
- Deep understanding of security, privacy, and compliance best practices.
- Product-oriented, pragmatic mindset with strong communication skills.
- Startup-ready: adaptable, iterative, and comfortable making foundational architectural decisions.
- Data-savvy and reliability-driven, with a focus on operational excellence and measurable performance.
- Nice-to-have: experience with ETL processes, modern data stack tools (Dagster, dbt, Snowflake), AI integrations, and silent push notifications.
