    We're seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (w/m/d) to join our Engineering team in Berlin.


    This is a hybrid position, requiring 2 days in the office

    Start date - as soon as possible


    Your mission in a nutshell:

    You will design, build and evolve backend systems that power our digital health platform, contributing across multiple services and domains while taking ownership of features end-to-end.


    How you will spend your time:

    • Develop and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot

    • Work on infrastructure, system reliability, and performance improvements

    • Take ownership of features across the full lifecycle: design, build, deploy and run

    • Collaborate within cross-functional scrum teams to deliver product functionality

    • Contribute to code reviews and uphold high engineering standards

    • Support and mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge across the backend community

    • Contribute to multiple product areas rather than a single isolated service

    • Leverage AI tools to enhance development efficiency and problem-solving, developing AI-powered solutions


    What you should bring to the table:

    • Strong experience in backend development with Java (minimum ~3+ years)

    • Solid experience with AWS or Google Cloud and cloud-based architectures

    • Proficiency with Spring Boot and modern backend technologies

    • Experience with Git and DevOps practices (CI/CD, build & run ownership)

    • Understanding of scalable systems and distributed architectures

    • Experience working in Agile environments

    • A proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership

    • Openness to learning, sharing knowledge, and contributing to team growth

    • Strong communication skills in English

    You will be successful in your role after 6 months, if:

    • You have built strong working relationships within the team

    • You have developed a solid understanding of the product, systems, and architecture

    • You work independently and take ownership of features and initiatives

    • You contribute actively to improvements, becoming a go-to person in your domain


    Interview process

    If your application progresses positively, you will be invited to participate in our hiring process, which includes the following stages:

    • Initial screening call with a recruiter (up to 45 minutes)

    • Leadership interview with our Director Engineering and Engineering Manager (60 minutes)

    • Technical assessment (live coding) with our Principal Engineer and Senior Backend Engineer (up to 90 minutes)

    • Final interview with the Hiring Manager and Engineering Manager (on-site, up to 60 minutes)

    Please note: our offices close over the Christmas and New Year period for approximately two weeks. We gift the 24th and 31st December as extra vacation days and any additional non-public holiday days during this time will be taken from your annual leave.
