    Location:  This position is offered on a hybrid basis in our Freiburg office, Germany - working closely with colleagues in the engineering team.

    Your Role 

    This position is offered exclusively as a mandatory internship (Pflichtpraktikum) that is a required component of a university degree program under German higher education regulations.

    The internship is designed as a learning-oriented educational placement, with close supervision and mentorship, and does not replace a regular employee role.

    As a Software Engineering Intern, you will support the Satellite Technology team in improving internal software tools and documentation systems used in satellite development.

    You will gain hands-on exposure to real-world engineering workflows while being guided by experienced engineers throughout the internship.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support the maintenance and improvement of internal systems engineering documentation platforms

    • Assist in building automation tools for requirements management, task tracking, and visualization

    • Help integrate external data sources via APIs

    • Support engineers in using and improving internal documentation and tooling

    • Contribute to improving internal engineering workflows and processes

    All tasks are performed under supervision and are aligned with the educational objectives of the internship.

    What You Will Learn

    • How software supports space systems engineering workflows

    • How satellite development teams manage requirements, documentation, and engineering data

    • How automation tools are built for engineering teams

    • How modern engineering teams collaborate using DevOps tools and documentation platforms

    • How software tools support real satellite missions and engineering processes



    About you

    • Currently enrolled at a university or university of applied sciences

    • Your study program explicitly requires a mandatory internship (Pflichtpraktikum)

    • Field of study: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline

    Required Skills

    • Basic Python programming skills

    • Familiarity with markup languages (Markdown, reStructuredText)

    • Basic experience with Git or other version control systems

    • Interest in engineering tools and automation

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with DevOps tools or CI/CD pipelines

    • Basic understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

    • Interest in space systems engineering or satellite development

    • Experience with data analysis or visualisation tools (e.g. matplotlib, numpy, pandas)

    • Platforms: Internal engineering platforms and integrations (including SharePoint)
